Islay is a place of adventure, a where wild and exciting countryside is yours to conquer. Play the part of a Lord of the Island as you visit long, sandy beaches and rocky coves, streams and forests, wildlife and mysterious ruins. There is so much to explore, by boat, on horseback, by bike or just on foot. We can suggest routes for nature trails, help you book fishing trips, horseback rambles, or put you on a bike and point you in the direction of some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery.

Just a few footsteps away is the golden sand of Laggan Bay, which is a great spot for a picnic or a game of beach cricket. Our big billiard room, pool table and table tennis are good indoor activities and the full-size television in our Golf Bar there to catch up on favourite programmes or big sporting events in a lively atmosphere (of course, if you want to watch in your room we’ve got televisions there as well). There are board games you can help yourself to by the fire in the drawing room, and there is a play area just outside.

The Machrie is a very family-friendly hotel, as children under eight sharing with their parents going free of charge, apart from meals and drinks. There is little traffic on the island, so it’s a place where parents can relax too.
